
Healing from trauma is a deeply personal journey, and for many, it can feel like an insurmountable challenge. But what if the healing process didn’t have to be done alone? What if, through the wisdom of energy and our chakra system, we could tap into a profound source of support to navigate our healing? As someone who has experienced both the intensity of physical and emotional abuse and the restorative power of energy healing, I’ve learned how to use the tools within us to reclaim our power and heal the wounds from the past.
A Personal Story of Abuse and Its Impact
When I was in college, I found myself in a relationship that, at first, seemed to be everything I wanted. He was charming and attentive, but as the relationship progressed, things began to change. Subtle emotional manipulation and controlling behaviors set in, and I found myself questioning my own worth and reality. But at that time, my worth was already fragile, shaped by years of struggling with bulimia and an overwhelming sense of low self-esteem. The emotional abuse that followed felt almost like a natural extension of the negative patterns I had internalized over the years. I was susceptible, and I didn’t know how to escape the cycle.
Then came the night that changed everything.
After college, we moved in together, and the emotional abuse escalated into something far more terrifying. One night, instead of responding to a question, he physically assaulted me. He punched me repeatedly, and as he suffocated me, I truly thought I was going to die. I could feel the life draining out of me, and in that moment, I realized how fragile life is and how fear can make us feel powerless.
The Bridge to Healing
Looking back, I can see how the abuse, combined with my already fragile sense of self-worth, created a perfect storm of emotional and physical suffering. The fear I felt that night, and the shame I carried afterward, permeated my entire being. But despite the darkness of that experience, it also marked a turning point. It was in that space of pain and vulnerability that I realized I needed to reclaim my power—not just in the physical sense but in a deeper, more spiritual way. At first it was easier to “ignore” the feelings using my bulimia, alcohol and sex to numb them. Eventually, the pain grew harder to avoid and I went to treatment for my eating disorder and learned to meditate. That’s when I began my journey of healing through energy.
This journey led me to a powerful realization: the body holds the key to healing. Through the chakra system, I discovered how energy flows within us, and how it can be blocked or disrupted by trauma or unprocessed emotion. The chakra system is a map of this energy flow, guiding us in understanding the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our well-being. As I began to work with these energy centers, I started to experience profound shifts—not just in how I felt, but in how I interacted with the world around me.
The Chakra System: A Gateway to Healing
The chakra system is a spiritual and energetic map of our body, guiding us through the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms. Each chakra is a vortex of energy located along the spine, and when they are open and balanced, they allow energy to flow freely through our bodies. But when we experience trauma—especially physical or emotional abuse—these energy centers can become blocked or unbalanced, causing a cascade of issues in our lives.
The most common symptoms of these blockages include chronic stress, difficulty in relationships, and even physical ailments. But here’s the good news: the chakra system can be a powerful tool in releasing these blocks and restoring harmony within ourselves.
Root Chakra: Foundation of Safety and Security
The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is our foundation. It governs our feelings of safety, stability, and security. After the abuse I endured, I felt a profound sense of instability and fear. The foundation I had built my life on had been shaken to its core. The feeling of being unsafe in my own body and the world around me left me unable to trust those closest to me.
Rebuilding the foundation of our root chakra requires patience and grounding. Practices like yoga, walking barefoot in nature, and mindfulness help to restore this chakra, reconnecting us to the earth and our inherent strength. Through energy healing, I was able to release the grip of fear that held me hostage and rediscover my innate sense of security.
Heart Chakra: Healing Emotional Wounds
Our heart chakra, located in the center of the chest, is the seat of love, compassion, and emotional balance. But when we endure trauma, especially from those who are supposed to love and protect us, it can leave emotional scars that disrupt the flow of love and compassion within us. The abuse I suffered made it difficult for me to trust in love again. I questioned my worthiness and wondered if I could ever fully open my heart to others.
Through energy healing, I learned to open my heart chakra again, slowly allowing the flow of love to return to me. This process involved releasing old wounds, forgiving myself, and learning to trust again. When we heal the heart chakra, we allow ourselves to receive love in its purest form—love from ourselves, from others, and from the universe.
Solar Plexus Chakra: Reclaiming Personal Power
The solar plexus chakra, located in the upper abdomen, governs our sense of personal power, self-esteem, and confidence. Trauma often erodes our sense of self-worth, leaving us feeling powerless and defeated. This was a deep struggle for me during and after my abusive relationship. The feelings of shame, guilt, and unworthiness clouded my sense of self, making it difficult to stand in my own power.
Through the practice of energy healing, I reconnected with my solar plexus chakra, allowing me to reclaim my personal power. I began setting boundaries, asserting my needs, and trusting in my own strength. When we heal the solar plexus, we step into our full potential, no longer letting fear or shame control us.
The Path to Healing: A Personal Journey
Healing from trauma is not linear. It takes time, patience, and commitment. There were moments when I felt like I wasn’t making progress, but with each healing session, I found myself returning to my center, feeling more grounded, more confident, and more open to love. Energy healing allowed me to move beyond the trauma and reconnect with my highest self, the version of me that had always been whole and powerful.
It’s important to note that healing is not about forgetting or erasing the past. It’s about learning to integrate our experiences and create new, healthier patterns. Through chakra healing and energy work, I’ve been able to release the energetic residue of the past and embrace a future that is full of possibility.
